If you have set up your groups in Address Book, they will sync over to your iPhone.

If you view All Contacts, you should have a tab in the upper left corner which shows Groups.

Pick the Group you want to view and this takes you to a list of contacts within that group.

Then in the upper right corner hit the key and add your contact.

When you sync back up, your contact should appear in your Address Book under all Contacts and under the assigned group.

So a contact group and a CATEGORY are not the same thing Because I have my contacts organized in categories (Business, Personal, etc.), and I dont get any tabs when I see all contacts.

Within each Group, you can assign a contact to a Category, so you can have contacts within different Groups be part of the same Category.

What I did is set up Groups such as Personal, Company, Family and assign Contacts to those Groups.

On the iPhone I can then select All Contacts, or select one of the Groups to see a smaller list of contacts within the smaller group.

The size of your contact list will dictate how you organize your list.

You can take all of your contacts into Address Book and then I just dragged various contacts into the Groups I wanted them to be part of.

It should work the same with Outlook which should importexport into the Apple Address Book Program.

Categories is something that not only applies to groups, but to calendar events, todos and notes (the last two being ignored by the iPhone right now).

If you have created a NEW contact from a Google Map lookup, you cannot assign it to a group on the iPhone.

You have to wait until you sync back up with Address Book, assign that contact to a group, then sync again.

I have pulled a lot of new contacts through the Google Map function (which is amazing BTW) but I have yet to find a way to assign the new contact to a group.

But, I am intrigued by your ability to create a contact from a Map lookup.

I dont see how you can take the information that comes up in Google Map (look up Pizza in Pasadena) and save the contact info to your contacts.
